Another
of the Gundam series developed during the 7th Space War,
the GT-9600 Gundam Leopard represents raw firepower at
its best. One takes a quick look at the specs and quickly
realizes it was created for one reason: to level a city single-handedly. Just as the GX and GW
were piloted by Newtypes using the Flash System, the
Leopard also belonged to a Newtype. It's unknown exactly
how many Leopards found their way into space during the
War, but the only known one still in existence now
belongs to Roby Loy.The
Leopard lacks the mobility of the Airmaster and has no
Satellite Cannon-equivalent, but as far as conventional
weapons go, it beats the others in terms of sheer
firepower hands down. With a huge gatling gun on its left
arm and a grenade launcher on its right, as well as a
horde of internal weapons, the Leopard is a formidable
opponent for any mobile suit pilot simply because of the
barrage it could let off to repel an enemy attack.
Pilot Roby Loy recognizes
and takes advantage of the Leopard's firepower strengths.
Though the Leopard can't fly (unless it's attached to the
G-Falcon, of course), Roby provides the ground support in
many a skirmish with a spray of bullets into the air to
knock down anything that can fly. Midway through the
series when the Freeden reaches the ocean, the Leopard is
converted into a sea-going mobile suit and let's loose
its unique style of combat underwater against Orcs. On
any terrain (or lack thereof), the GT-9600 Gundam Leopard
is a strong ally or a fearsome enemy, and it remains such
right up until its upgrade late in the series.
