After
being pretty badly defeated by some new Federation models
with higher mobility, the GW-9800 Airmaster is not only
repaired, but upgraded. The result is the GW-9800-B
Gundam Airmaster Burst, a more powerful and
more mobile suit than the original could have ever hoped
to be.The Vulcans
in the nose have been traded out for beam cannons, and a
new addition rather than replacement, is the booster beam
cannon. However, the buster rifles still remain it's main
weapon. Making a return to aid in the Airmaster's
mobility is the Trans-System, the ability of the
Airmaster (and now Airmaster Burst) to transform into an
airplane.
The Airmaster Burst first
debuts in episode 26, aiding in Estardo's fight against
the New Federation. After making short work of the new
models, Witts has to fight Olba Frost and the Ashtaron.
Airmaster Burst has little trouble with Ashtaron, and
eventually, Ashtaron leaves when Olba finds that their
mission is over. Airmaster Burst continues to fight for
Estardo until it's conquered by the New Federation.
Following the conquest, Airmaster Burst undergoes
modifications for space flight and aids the Freeden in
stopping the war between the New Federation and the Space
Rebellion. Unlike the Double X, the Airmaster Burst is
not destroyed during the last battle, and so its final
fate is unknown. However, though Witts settles down at
the end of the TV series, it would make sense to assume
that his Gundam isn't too far away, just in case he
should need it again.
