Roby Loy
|
Ever
the womanizer, Roby Loy has a seemingly endless list of
former girlfriends. We know little about his family,
other than that they're now long dead. Much more laid
back than WItts, it was Roby who originally thought of
installing a game room on the Freeden as a way
of relaxing. He often jokes around, sometimes to the
annoyance of Witts and others.![]() Roby received his GT-9600 Gundam Leopard when he won a bet with a girl who, though we know little about her, seems to have been considerably more important to him than the parade of women he has stashed away in his personal organizer. However, for reasons unknown to the viewer, she died at some point in the past, leaving only her memory and her Gundam to Roby. Though technically a freelance mobile suit pilot (along with Witts), Roby is often in the employment of the Freeden and is more or less a crew member by the time the series gets underway. His Leopard is probably the most powerful Gundam in terms of sheer firepower (minus the Satellite Cannon), and Roby exploits this as much as possible, often taking out several mobile suits with a barrage of bullets from several guns at once. It's difficult to gauge Roby's skills exactly, as his mobile suit's long range and high firepower tend to give him a somewhat easier time than, say, Witts' Airmaster. However, he is quite self confident and judging from some of the work he's done, such as his battle with the Airmaster and GX Divider against the Mobile Armor Patouria, it's obvious that no matter how he stacks up against the rest of the Freeden's pilots, he's still an excellent mobile suit pilot in his own right. Roby's main drawback is perhaps his reluctance to fight at times. Given, it's nice to see him take his own thoughts and beliefs on the current situation over whatever monetary compensation he would receive, but at times, one can't help but wonder what's going through his head, such as when he chooses not to help save Tifa after hearing why Jamil wants to help Newtypes. To be fair, however, he did show up midway through the battle with Witts, but this is not the only example of this sort of thing happening with him. Despite all this, though, Roby seems to always know what he should be doing, and when everything is said and done, "what he should be doing" is always helping out his friends, a task he never backs down from. |
