Now the 30 year old leader of a Vulture group, Jamil Neat played a crucial part in the 7th Space War fifteen years prior to the events of the TV series. Jamil Neat was the Newtype pilot of the GX-9900 Gundam X and Jamil Neat [Image coming soon.]famous throught the entire Earth Federation among New and Oldtypes alike. When the colonies were dropped, it was his finger that pulled the trigger on the Satellite Cannon, and as a result, he lost his Newtype abilities and was mentally scarred with "cockpit phobia," keeping him out of a mobile suit for fifteen years (until he's forced to overcome his phobia during the TV series).

Jamil Neat's primary goal as captain of the Freeden is to "collect" Newtypes so as to protect them from having to go through the same things he did as a soldier of the Earth Federation. The first Newtype to be saved by the Freeden was Tifa Adil. Following a brief escape attempt with the help of Garoad Ran, Tifa eventually guides the Freeden to their next Newtype target at Fort Severn: the Artificial Newtype, Caris Nautilus.

After dealing with Caris, Jamil and the Freeden head for the sea, where he meets a ghost from the past, Luchilu Lilliant, his Federation superior. Though Luchilu was long ago imprisoned at the bottom of the sea as part of the Federation's abandoned Project L, she was still enough alive to telepathically lend her abilities to Jamil, thus enabling him to use the Flash System and save the Freeden against overwhelming odds.

Jamil often acts as a role model of sorts for Garoad. When Garoad suffers a miserable defeat at Caris' hands, Jamil shows him that, though Caris is utilizing a form of the Flash System, Garoad is still simply fighting physical objects. As such, they can still be destroyed - Caris' abilities do not automatically render them invincible by any stretch of the imagination. He also helps Garoad when he throws the GX's control unit out onto a frozen pond. Garoad is left to give up piloting the GX or retrieve the control unit, and when it seems Garoad is going to give up, Jamil leaves. Garoad runs out to get the control unit, but the ice is weak. Jamil's advice to "Just run without thinking," along with the lesson that Caris' bit weapons could be defeated, was help enough that Garoad was able to defeat the Newtype once and for all.

Being a Newtype who was trained for war, Jamil obviously has a lot of skill behind the controls of a mobile suit. It's not exactly rare to see him show up in the GX to bail out Garoad after he gets himself into a pinch (after overcoming his cockpit phobia, of course). He's right at home behind the controls of his old Gundam and has no problem taking on entire armies of mobile suits or tangling with "superior" Gundams, such as those of the Frost brothers (though to be fair, he never gets into a serious fight with them, more like just rescuing Garoad). Truly, Jamil Neat is not a mobile suit pilot to take lightly.

However, right up to the end of the series, Jamil's true focus on Newtypes is never shaken. He, as well as Lancelow Dawell, his former rival who also lost his Newtype abilities, were among those D.O.M.E. thought needed to learn the truth about Newtypes. The three main factions, the New Federation, the Space Rebellion, and Jamil's Vultures, all had conflicting views of Newtypes, and for this reason, it was necessary that D.O.M.E. sort it out for everyone. Jamil Neat finally received the answers he had been seeking for fifteen years and was able to leave his past behind. The final image of him in the series is in some sort of government position along the lines of an ambassador with Sara Tyrell (one of the Freeden's crew) as his assistant.
