Garoad Ran

Garoad
Ran is the fifteen year old pilot of the GX-9900 Gundam X
(and later versions of it). He was born just before the
end of the 7th Space War, and in fact, his father was
killed during the war. He gew up in a harsh ![]() Garoad is a fairly light hearted person, but he always does what he believes to be right and he's not without his serious moments. He loses whatever amount of money he would have gotten for "rescuing" Tifa from the vultures when he immediately takes her from his employer as soon as she becomes uneasy. When given the chance to kill Caris Nautilus, he doesn't. He defies both the Space Rebellion and the New Federation because he realizes both sides wish to repeat the mistakes made in the 7th Space War, and though it could easily mean his own death, he never backs down from a fight with the Frost brothers. Most importantly, his commitment to Tifa is simply unshakable. He always worries about her safety and often defies the future she has predicted in order to protect her. When she's kidnapped, he attempts to follow her into space even though the Double X isn't capable of atmospheric clearance, and when he does eventually make it into space, he vows not to leave until he's rescued Tifa. And, with the help of Paula Cis, he does rescue her and they return to Earth. Furthermore, Garoad is simply crushed when he inadvertantly hurts a friend. The perfect example is when he accidentally injures Jamil Neat. Jamil was left unconscious and it would not be an exaggeration to say that the crew of the Freeden truly hated him. So distraught was Garoad that he actually attempted to sell his Gundam, and the reason he ended up retaining it was that the Freeden was attacked and he felt obligated to help out. Garoad's mobile suit piloting skills are top rate, most likely due at least in part to his mechanical skills. The moment he first jumps into the GX, he can pilot it. When he takes the Double X into space, he completely amazes Lancelow Dawell, Jamil Neat's old rival from the war, with how quickly he becomes accustomed to the zero gravity environment of outer space. It's not rare for Garoad to have to take on an entire army and he always manages to pull through with the aid of his skill and his allies. The Frost brothers pit him against the Federation's best soldiers and he always finds a path to victory. Simply put, if you drop Garoad into a mobile suit's cockpit, you'd better be ready for one hell of a fight. And well, if you threaten Tifa Adil, you don't even have a chance. Overall, I'd say Garoad is a pretty good character. Admirable in that he always does what he thinks is the right thing, believable in that he at times loses faith even in himself, enjoyable with his antics that sometimes leave the other members of the Freeden's crew scratching their heads. Truly a good addition to the Gundam X cast. |
